Privacy Policy
Your travel is your business. Here is how MapMend handles your information.
MapMend is made by Steamboat Software LLC. MapMend is Ultra-Private™. Specifically, we:
- Do not sell or market your data;
- Do not share your data with advertisers or use it for third-party advertising;
- Encrypt your data in transit.
Account information
To create and use a MapMend account, we collect your email address and your first name. Your email identifies your account; your first name personalizes your greeting and weather briefing.
Device permissions
MapMend asks your permission before it uses your device’s location, calendar, contacts or notifications. Location lets MapMend show live traffic, driving weather and road conditions where you are and along your way. Your calendar lets MapMend plan your day around where you need to be — event titles, times and notes stay on your device; only the location text of an event you’re navigating to is sent to Mapbox to find it on the map. Contacts let you search your address book to save a place to Atlas — that search happens on your device, and only the address of a contact you pick is sent to Mapbox. Notifications let MapMend alert you about your trips and account. You decide whether to allow each one, and you can change your choice at any time in your device’s settings. If you decline, the features that depend on that permission won’t be available, and the rest of the app keeps working.
Where your information is stored
Your account information and trip history (trips and miles, used to show your usage stats) are stored on our servers, only for as long as we need them to provide MapMend to you or for as long as the law requires, and then deleted. Your calendar details and contacts search happen on your device and are not stored on our servers — only a contact’s address that you choose to save is kept in your Atlas. Your information is encrypted in transit.
Sharing places and third-party services
When you share a place through Atlas, the people you share it with can see the place and any details you choose to include with it.
To provide live maps, traffic and weather, MapMend relies on Mapbox and other third-party mapping, traffic and weather services. To answer a request — including a location search, a contact you pick, or an event’s location — those services receive only the address or area needed to answer it. We use them only to provide MapMend’s features. We do not sell your data to them, or to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising.
Subscriptions are purchased and billed through Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
Your choices
You control your information from inside the app. In MapMend, open Profile and choose Erase My Data to remove your saved places, trip history and other data while keeping your account, or choose Delete Account to remove your account and all of its data. Steps are on our Delete your data page.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Billing continues until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
This website
mapmend.com does not use tracking cookies, advertising trackers or third-party analytics. We do not collect personal information from visitors to this website beyond what you choose to give us, for example when you email us for support.
Like any website, mapmend.com and the services that deliver it (our web host, and the public networks that serve its fonts and style sheets) receive the technical information every web request carries, such as your IP address and browser type, in order to deliver and secure the site. We don’t use that information to identify or track you.
Children
MapMend is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at support@steamboatsoftware.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We work constantly to improve MapMend and may update this policy from time to time to reflect our services and practices. The effective date above shows when it last changed.
